Indians Have Successful Meet In Grinnell

Oskaloosa Indians

The Oskaloosa Indian swim team traveled to Grinnell and swam its best races on the year to come away with 2 victories and 1 loss on the night in a triple dual formatted meet. The Indians beat Williamsburg and Vinton Shellsburg on the night but they lacked the depth to upset Grinnell.

The night started with the 200 Medley relay as the Indians sent all 8 swimmers to the blocks with teams that were created to be pretty even. The team with Owen Gordan, Carson Abrahamson, Jack Miller and Ean Beenken earned a second place finish and just edged out the team of Colin Fiechtner, Jack Dawson, Jarod Miller, and Colton Berg who finished third in the event. The second event was the 200 Free as Owen finished third in a time of 2:08.60. In the 200 IM Colin Fiechtner stepped it up to earn a second place finish in a time of 2:33.28. The 50 yard free was fast as Jarod Miller brought home a second place finish in 25.09 while Jack Dawson came in with a 26.12 and Carson with a 28.95. In the 100 Fly Jack Miller took to the blocks and broke the old high school record in a time of 1:01.23 for a second place finish. Event 12, the 100 Free, was swam by Jarod Miller who came away with a first place finish and a personal best time of 54.79, while Owen was right behind him finishing fourth in a time of 57.66. In the longest race of the night, the 500 free, Ean Beenken led the way for Oskaloosa as he took third with a time of 6:31.26 and was followed by Colton Berg with a time of 6:58.07. The 200 Free Relay was next with Oskaloosa taking third with a 1:47.47 time with all the freshman swimming the race Owen, Colin, Carson, and Jack Dawson. After the short break Osky came out ready to swim as Jack Miller finished first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:00.95 and then Jack Dawson took first place in the next race with a 1:12.54 in the 100 Breast stroke and Carson close behind taking fourth place with a time of 1:18.61. The last event of the night is the 400 Free Relay as the team of Jarod, Colton, Ean, and Jack Miller took second place honors in a time of 4:01.50.

The coaches were very proud of the boys and the times that they put up on the night and are looking forward to see what they can do at their next meet. The closest meet of the year is in Ottumwa on January 26th, at the Beach, starting at 5:30, and the boys would love to see some Indian fans there to cheer them on as they take on the Bulldogs.
