Ramona I. Garrett, 81, of Centerville and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Mercy Centerville Long Term Care. She was born November 16, 1935, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Opal Moore Dunsmoor.

Ramona graduated from Oskaloosa High School. On July 4, 1954, she was united in marriage to Evan Garrett. Evan died in 2004.

Early on Ramona worked as a waitress at the “old” Sale In Café in Oskaloosa. After her time at the café, Ramona and Evan lived various places including: Glenwood Springs, Colorado; Lancaster, Missouri; Centerville, Albia and lastly back to Oskaloosa in 2007.

Ramona enjoyed singing country music.

Her family includes her three children: Evan “Bub” Garrett of Ottumwa, Johnnie Allen Garrett of What Cheer, and Yvonne (& George) Robinson of Moravia; seven grandchildren; a brother, Tommy (& Harriett) Dunsmoor of Lynnville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers: Ivan, Carroll, Elmer, and Melvin Dunsmoor.

Funeral services for Ramona will be held Friday, January 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Beverly Sunkle officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-5 Thursday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Long Term Care in Centerville.
