Pella Christian Bests Oskaloosa 8th Grade Girls
Yesterday evening the 8th grade girls basketball team took on Pella Christian and were looking for a bounce back win after a tough loss to Grinnell. The girls came out and struggled shooting from the field but played great man to man defense. The game was within striking distance the entire first half and part of the second. Pella hit a couple threes in the second half and put the game out of reach. The girls came up short with a final score of 16-32.The girls had a good “heart to heart” with Coach Knoot and myself after the game. We stressed the importance of caring about the teams success and not just of our own. When a team can play unselfish basketball and care just about the success of the team, individual stats fall into place. Being a basketball referee is not an easy task by any stretch and questioning each individual call does no good. That’s a discussion we need to continue to have with our athletes throughout their careers. This was a learning experience for the players and for us coaches as well. We look forward to good week of practice and a bounce back win next week. Go Indians!
