Scholar all-Region selection for Central’s Sunvold

Central College

PELLA — For the second time in three years, the Central College women’s soccer team landed a student-athlete on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Women’s Division III Scholar All-North/Central Region third team as senior midfielder Kayla Sunvold (Runnells, Iowa/Southeast Polk HS) received the honor.

Former defensive stalwart Liz Daniels picked up the honors in 2014.

In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team. Carpenter is majoring in psychology and holds a 3.61 GPA.

Sunvold set the school record for assists in a single season with 10 in 2016. She also scored four goals to finish with 18 total points. Her two-goal performance against Bethany Lutheran College on September 11 provided all the needed in offense in a 2-0 Central victory.

A three-time Academic all-Iowa Conference selection, Sunvold also earned second team all-conference honors in 2015 and 2016.

Sunvold was one of five conference players on the team, joining players from Luther College and Loras College.

Central finished the season 15-4-1 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Dutch were third in the conference standings and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
