Bruce Witman, 63 of New Sharon and formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 6, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Bruce Allen Witman, the son of Earl and Dawn (Williamson) Witman was born on February 16, 1953.

Bruce graduated from Hamburg High School. He then. went into the United States Air Force and was stationed in Washington State.

Bruce was a Jr. fire fighter and was trained in fighting forest fires, and every summer Bruce went to different states to fight forest fires. He moved to Cedar Rapids and drove taxi cab for several years until he started having health problems.

Bruce had a passion for hockey and was a goal judge with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders since 1999 until present. He was also goal judge for the Iowa Wild for the past several years. He also enjoyed NASCAR.

Bruce is survived by his girlfriend, Connie Strom of New Sharon; three children: Anthony (& Tara) Witman of Robesonia, Pennsylvania, Jason (& Jennifer) Witman of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Sean Heckman of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; a sister, Carla (& Victor) Bartholomew of Kutztown, Pennsylvania and Connie’s two daughters: Jennifer Buren (& Dennis Currier) of New Sharon and Julie (& Nathan) Bird of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services are pending. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
