Bryan Whitten, 57, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016, surrounded by his family at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born September 22, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elaine Lowry Whitten.

Bryan attended school at Tracy and Pella. While in high school he was active in football and wrestling. He also enjoyed boxing in his younger days.

On October 19, 1979, he was united in marriage to Cindy McKee in Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born, Fonda, Melissa, and Brandon. Bryan and Cindy later divorced.

Bryan worked various places throughout his life. Early on he worked at George’s Pizza and Vermeer in Pella, Bloom Builders in Oskaloosa, the City of Pella for 11 years, Reames Foods for 15 years, McDonalds in Oskaloosa for 8 years, and last for Thomas Sanitation in Oskaloosa.

Bryan enjoyed assembling and collecting model cars, fishing, hunting, gardening, and cheering on Jeff Gordon while watching NASCAR. Bryan found great peace in accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in September of 2014.

His family includes his three children: Fonda Whitten (& Jeff Sanders) of Sully, Melissa (& Brandon) Rozendaal of Lynnville, and Brandon Whitten of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Logan Neubert, Skyler Jannenga, Hopelynn Travis, Kyler Rozendaal, Jazzlynn Rozendaal, and Quintyn Rozendaal; three brothers: Francis “Gene” Whitten of Wayland, Iowa; Terry Whitten of Oskaloosa, and Dennis (& Kim) Whitten of Tennessee; three sisters: Sherry Whitten of Oskaloosa, Christa (& Dan) Morgan of Fargo, North Dakota, and Stacie (& Owen) McKee of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews, and Friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and a daughter, Latricia Michelle Whitten.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 10:00 am in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastors Joe Goemaat, Dave Brown and Donovan Van Wyk officiating.
Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday, December 9, 2016 after 11 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 PM to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family to go towards a headstone.
