MOUNT PLEASANT — A nine-year record stands no longer.

Junior guard Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla. East Lake HS) registered a school-record eight 3-pointers in the Central College 66-50 victory over Iowa Wesleyan (0-4). Dine tied the record last season with seven threes against the University of Dubuque. Katy Paxton originally set the record against Wartburg College in 2007.

“Emily Dine has worked extremely hard over the last few years at Central and she saw the result of her hard work tonight,” said coach Chelsea Petersen. “The coaching staff and players are very happy for Emily in breaking the school record tonight. She had shot the ball well all season but didn’t have that special night yet. Tonight was special for her.”

Dine finished with 26 points.

Reigning Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week Claire Marburger (sophomore, Perry), a forward, added her fourth statistical double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Marburger is averaging 26.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season.

“Claire had another great game,” said Petersen. “She stepped up and hit big shots when Iowa Wesleyan was making runs.”

Guards Jessica Helton (junior, Nevada) and Kaitlyn Johnson (sophomore, Stockport, Van Buren HS) combined for 18 points off the bench, 11 and seven respectively.

“Kaitlyn Johnson was able to hit shots in big moments when Iowa Wesleyan was making runs,” said Petersen. “Jessica Helton brought a great energy to the floor and played great defense.”

Central (4-0) is a battle-tested team according to Petersen.

“This is our third road trip and fourth game in seven days,” she said. “Tonight was a big win before the Thanksgiving break.”

Central returns to action Saturday at Fontbonne University (Mo.). The Dutch defeated the Griffins 73-65 last season. With a win Saturday, the Dutch would be off to their best start since the 2013-14 season (6-0).
