James M. “Jim” Kerr, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, January 17, 1921, in Albia, the son of John Patrick and Mabel Heter Kerr.

Jim served in the US Army during WWII. On February 21, 1942, Jim was united in marriage to Deborah Moses in Lancaster, Missouri, Deb died August 19, 2009.

Early on in their marriage, Jim worked in the dairy industry, he later operated a concrete construction business for several years and later worked in the Mahaska County Assessor’s Office.

Jim was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V. and served as a minister at the Community of Christ Church in Oskaloosa for over 40 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting with his friends and family.

Jim is survived by two sisters-in-law: Cleora Hartmann and Julia Kerr; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: John Vernon “Jack”, Charles William “Bill”, and Robert Harold “Bob” Kerr; and a sister, Ruth Barthelman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Burial will be in Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, November 22, 2016, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Community of Christ Church in Oskaloosa or to the Bellefountaine Cemetery Association.
