Oskaloosa–The William Penn wrestling team has proven it has more than a few individuals capable of making some noise this season as the first NAIA top-20 poll was released Wednesday.

Nationally, John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) is ranked 14th at 125 pounds to help the Statesmen to an unofficial ranking of 42nd with two points. Grand View is #1 with 165.5 points, while Indiana Tech (98), Williams Baptist (Ark.) (75.5), Oklahoma City (65.5), and Menlo (Calif.) round out the top five.

GVU’s 226 points gives the Vikings top billing in the Central Qualifying Group standings, while WPU is sixth with 50 points.

Altieri holds the #3 position at 125, while 157-pounder Logan Loftus (Jr., Marengo, Iowa, Industrial Technology) and heavyweight Matthew Cuthbert (So., Yucaipa, Calif., Sociology) are both fifth in their weight classes. Dane Jones (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa) is currently six at 197 pounds.
