Charles Stream, 74, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born December 21, 1941, at a farm house in Union County, Iowa, the son of Sherman “Dean” and Clarice Moellenberndt Stream.

Charles was the valedictorian of the class of 1960 graduating from Van Wert High School. He earned his B.A. from William Penn University in History and Economics, and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law with his J.D. in 1967.

Following law school graduation, Charles moved back to Oskaloosa and began practicing law with Bruce Palmer. Later in 1967, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970. Upon his discharge, he returned to Oskaloosa and practiced law in private practice until 1975. On March 9, 1973, he was united in marriage to Carol Rozenboom in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Shelley and Jeff. In 1975, Charles was appointed as full time Judicial Magistrate. In 1979, he was appointed Juvenile Court Judge for ten counties in Iowa. In 1982, he was appointed County Attorney and he went on to be elected for 6 consecutive terms in that office. He retired as Mahaska County Attorney in December 31, 2005. In retirement, he filled vacancies in that office and did some private law practice.

Charles enjoyed tinkering in his garage and yard, fixing mechanical things and working on his Austin Healey with his son Jeff. He also enjoyed photography. He was a talented carpenter and built the home they live in currently.

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling by train, he took the North America Rail Pass across the United States and Canada in 2006, with his great nephew Jesse. He delighted in spending time with his family.

Charles loved sports especially football and baseball. He took great joy in the Cubs winning the World Series, he especially enjoyed talking about the world series with his brother.

His family includes his wife of over 43 years, Carol Stream of Oskaloosa; two children: Shelley Stream of Oskaloosa and Jeff (& Lynette) Stream of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Lily, Reagan, and Hayden Stream all of Oskaloosa; a brother, Ed Stream of New Sharon; a sister, Shirley (& Glen) Gilbert of Van Wert; close family friends and “adopted” grandchildren: Nick Palmer, Blake Palmer, Collin Palmer, and Tori Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Stream.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Andy Baker officiating.
Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery.
Graveside Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Charles Stream Memorial fund and will be used to support charities that Charles held close to his heart.
