Gary Walker, 62 of New Sharon passed away Sunday evening, November 6, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Gary Keith Walker was born on January 21, 1954 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Gary graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1972. On November 11, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Little in Barnes City. To this union two children were born, Mindi and Nicholas.
Gary worked a few years for DeYoung Construction before working for the New Sharon Elevator and Huffman Feed and Supply, retiring due to health reasons.
Gary enjoyed mowing the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon and gardening. He was actively involved with PROS and North Mahaska Shooters. Gary attended 9 out of 10 mission trips. Gary was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church and the Coffin-Miller American Legion Post #446.
His memory will be honored by his wife of 44 years, Nancy of New Sharon; his daughter, Mindi (& Kelly) Playle of New Sharon; four grandchildren: Landen Playle, Ashlynn Playle, Bryant Playle and Sullivan Playle; his mother, Hazel Walker-Hite of New Sharon; and many nieces, nephew and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Ryan Walker; father, Keith Walker; and three siblings: Linda Wehrle, Ron Walker and Dan Walker.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church.
Burial with military honors will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary’s honor may be made to PROS in care of the New Sharon United Methodist Church and/or in the family’s name.
