Andy Jansen, 87, of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday evening, November 2, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Andrew Harris Jansen was born November 29, 1928, at the rural home of his parents near Sully, Iowa. When he was one year old the family moved to a farm west of Oskaloosa.

As a young boy, Andy attended Prine School. He then attended Pella Christian High School and graduated in 1947.

Following his education, Andy helped his dad on the farm, drove a truck and worked wherever he could find a job. In 1958, his parents moved to another farm and Andy began farming the home place for himself. He farmed there until 1995.

Andy was united in marriage to Shirley Sigman, August 26, 1987, in Ottumwa, Iowa and the couple settled in Oskaloosa.

Andy was a member of Farm Bureau and the Calvary Bible Church. Andy enjoyed going to auctions and enjoyed collecting toy tractors.

Andy is survived by two brothers-in-law: Ray Veenstra of Sully, Iowa and Harold “Hal” Jackson of Winterset, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on Feb. 14, 2002; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Evelyn Jansen; and three sisters: Garlene Jansen, Virginia Veenstra and Harriett Jackson.

Funeral services for Andy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 7 at Calvary Bible Church with Rev. Doug Smiley officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
No visitation will be held.
