Officers Respond To Person With A Gun Call

On the 27th day of October, 2016 officers of the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to Southern Hills Apartments located at 202 18th Avenue East in Oskaloosa in regards to a domestic abuse assault. The caller advised that the male half was in possession of a loaded firearm.

Prior to officers arrival, the male half made threats to shoot responding law enforcement officers and then jumped from the second story balcony. The male fled the area on foot.

Officers were then dispatched to Homestead of Oskaloosa located at 2102 South Market Street in regards to a male who had came to the facility with an injured arm.

Officers arrived and located a male who was identified as Curtis Berry, dob 02-02-1976. Berry was in possession of a firearm and a loaded magazine. Berry was taken into custody without incident. As a result of jumping from the second story building, Berry suffered a broken arm for which he was transported to Mahaska Health Partnership for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, Berry was charged with domestic abuse assault displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. Berry was also charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. Berry was charged with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.

No other injuries have been reported from this incident.

There is no danger to the public or residents at Southern Hills Apartments.

It should be noted that a criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
