Early Voting Underway For Election 2016
Susan L. Brown, Mahaska County Auditor, announces that absentee ballots for the General Election to be held November 8th will be available in the Auditor’s Office on Thursday, September 29th.
Any person unable to get to the polls on November 8th may send a signed, written request to the Auditor’s Office, 106 South First Street, Oskaloosa, IA 52577. The request must contain the name, residential address, birth date, and address where the ballot is to be mailed. The request must indicate what election the absentee ballot is being requested and must be signed by each person requesting a ballot. The voter requesting the ballot can either use an Official Absentee Ballot Request Form or this information can be written on a piece of paper not smaller than a 3 x 5 postcard.
Absentee ballots may also be voted in the Auditor’s Office daily from 8:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday. The last day to vote absentee in the office is Monday, November 7th. The Auditor’s Office will be open Saturday, November 5th, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting.
The voter registration deadline to register early to vote for the upcoming General Election is Saturday, October 29, 2016. According to Mahaska County Auditor, Susan L. Brown, the Auditor’s Office will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on that day. If you are mailing a voter registration form, it must be postmarked on or before Monday, October 24, 2016 to vote in the General Election. If you are registering by mail, for the first time, you must also include a copy of proof of identity.
As of January 1, 2008 you may register at your correct precinct on Election Day. If registering for the 1st time in Mahaska County, be sure to bring along a photo ID with an expiration date stating your current address. If your photo ID does not have your current address please contact the Auditor’s Office at (641) 673-7148 for additional requirements.
Absentee ballots for the General Election will be available for voting at the Auditor’s Office beginning Thursday, September 29th. To obtain an absentee ballot please go to the Mahaska County’s website www.mahaskacounty.org and download the Absentee Ballot Request Form. A voter may also write their request on a blank piece of paper, 3 X 5 inches or larger. Your request must state you would like to vote in the General Election, November 8, 2016, the address where you live, the address you would like the ballot mailed to (such as a PO Box), birth date, and day time phone number where the voter can be reached. Each person requesting a ballot must complete and sign their own request for an absentee ballot. Mail your form to: Mahaska County Auditor, Susan L. Brown, 106 South 1st Street, Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577. The absentee ballot will be sent to the voter once the request has been received in the Auditor’s Office. If you do not have access to the State’s website, contact the Auditor’s Office.
Absentee ballots that are returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Monday, November 7, 2016. Voted absentee ballots may also be returned to the Auditor’s Office in person until 9:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8.
