Ronald Pettit, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Ron was born August 8, 1933, in Wapello, County the son of Royce A. and Enid Irene Bradshaw Pettit.

Ron graduated from Agency High School with the class of 1951. Following graduation, he moved to Des Moines for a short time and worked in a factory to help with the war effort.

On July 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Barbara Chesser in the Alpine Log Church in Agency, Ia.

In 1956 Ron took an entry level position with Mahaska Bottling Company in Oskaloosa. He started out working at their warehouse in Ottumwa. In 1963, as Ron continued to be promoted through Mahaska Bottling, the family moved to Oskaloosa. Ron eventually earned the position of General Manager of Mahaska Bottling in Oskaloosa, during this time he received his pilots license and enjoyed flying. In retirement he enjoyed working part-time at various places in Oskaloosa.

Ron enjoyed watching NASCAR, boating, spending time at their home at the Lake of the Ozarks, and traveling. He delighted in having his family around, he looked forward to attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa and the Masonic Lodge.

His family includes his wife of over 64 years, Barbara Pettit of Oskaloosa; three children: Victoria Pettit of West Des Moines, Tami (& Jack) Rempe of Leighton and Michael Pettit of North Port, Florida; six grandchildren: Mackenzie (& Toby) Hughes, Nicholas (& Nicole), Tyler, Christopher, Hannah, and Logan; five great grandchildren: Gracie Hughes, Bradleigh Hughes, Daltry Hughes, Elise Rempe, and Rhett Rempe; a brother, Jerry (& Barbara) Pettit of Jefferson, Iowa; and very close friends, Ray & Marilyn Boomershine of Oskaloosa.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in law, Annette Pettit; and a sister, Beverly Jackson Jones.

As was Ron’s wish, his body has been cremated and no visitation is planned.
There will be a private family Celebration of Life, held at a later date.
His family asks that you remember him as the happy, always smiling “Pepsi Man” that had time to laugh and joke with everyone.
Burial of the urn will be in the Forest Cemetery at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
