The Women’s Club recently disbanded but Sondra Bottenfield of Oskaloosa was happy to distribute the funds to several organizations across Oskaloosa to continue the goal of the club, “enrich the community in literature, music, history, and any social improvements that were needed in Oskaloosa.” The community trail was the area of concentration for the $750 donation. Sondra stated that the Women’s Club was able to enjoy the trail tram tours in the past and loved hearing the history that was given. Sherry Vavra, Executive Director for MCRF, was very happy to receive the donation and had worked with the Women’s Club earlier in the year when they sponsored two Historic Markers for the newly renovated alley downtown. The Historic Markers honored two influential Women’s Club donors, Virginia Knight Logan and her son Frederick Knight Logan, who left an inheritance from the estate in the 1950s to build the Oskaloosa Women’s Club building in use until 2016. The club honored Virginia and her son Frederick with Historic Markers and said that the family history had a great influence in the way the Women’s Club governed itself and its outlook on the community. Giving back to the community was the best possible ending for the Oskaloosa Women’s Club.
