WPU Drops Four-Setter at Culver-Stockton
Canton, Mo.–The Statesmen volleyball team looked on its way to its first league win, but could not finish the match in a 3-1 loss to Culver-Stockton in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Tuesday.
William Penn (3-16, 0-5 Heart) fell by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 16-25.
The navy and gold hit .217 to claim the opening set, while limiting the Wildcats (4-13, 1-4 Heart) to a .103 clip.
Unfortunately, the Statesmen failed to keep the momentum in losing the final three sets.
Claire Simmons (So., Williamsburg, Iowa, Psychology) led the visitors with eight kills. Savanna Hartman (Sr., Morgan Hill, Calif., Psychology) was next with six kills and two block assists, and Shawni Wills (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) also managed five winners in the setback.
Kathleen Steffen (So., Vinton, Iowa, Biology) assisted 16 times and Ashley Miller (So., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) finished with 17 digs. Haley Vampran (So., Fort Worth, Texas, Exercise Science) found success at the service line with a pair of aces.
