Oskaloosa–Camila Parra (Jr., Brisbane, Australia, Exercise Science) put away the equalizer in the second half as the William Penn women’s soccer team tied rival Grand View 1-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

In the second draw in the last three years, the Statesmen (3-5-1, 1-2-1 Heart) matched the Vikings (6-3-1, 2-1-1 Heart) with 13 shots each.

The visitors struck first in the 31st minute and held that one-goal advantage into intermission. WPU began to turn the tide early in the second stanza and finally got the tying goal at the 57:30 mark when Parra struck home a pass from Francis Lee (Jr., Fort Dodge, Iowa, Exercise Science). The junior now has two goals this fall.

Unfortunately, neither William Penn nor Grand View could add another tally for the rest of regulation or in the 20 minutes of overtime. The hosts were the aggressors in the extra play with a 4-1 edge in shots.

Parra, Bre Johnson (Jr., Arvada, Colo., Information Technology), and Alyce Correia (Sr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education) all finished with three shots Wednesday, while keeper Adriana Borjon (Sr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) stopped two Viking shots.

“I felt tonight we stepped up as a team and on another day we might have gotten the bounce of the ball to win it,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “We went toe-to-toe with our rival, and probably created the better chances towards the end of the game. We are close to putting it all together and seeing what this team can really do.”

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa Saturday to host #16 Baker in Heart action at 2 p.m.
