Gary Lee Johnson, 67, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday, September 17th, 2016, at The MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Gary was born, April 6, 1949, in Galesburg, Illinois to Larry and Betty Jo Johnson and he lived most of his life in and around the Midwest.

Gary graduated with a degree in pharmacy from Creighton University and worked in the automobile industry until frontotemporal dementia forced him to give up his career.

Gary loved to travel, fish, and hunt, watch the Iowa Hawkeyes, hang out with his family, and play with his grandchildren. His absolute favorite activity, though, was making others happy and making them laugh.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Joy (& Garrett); son Ryan (& Wendy); his mother, Betty Jo, sisters: Becky Jo and Debbie; and grandchildren: Katie and Garrison. Gary was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to all. His family was his life.

He was preceded in death by his father.

As was Gary’s wish, his body has been cremated.
His family will have a private service at home.
