Olathe, Kan.–The visiting William Penn women’s soccer team slowed down MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday, but not enough to come away with a win in a 2-0 setback in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

WPU (2-4, 0-1 Heart) was outshot 16-1 with Isabelle Lucking (So., River Falls, Wis., Elementary Education) producing the lone attempt.

The Pioneers (3-1-3, 1-0 Heart) broke through in the 24th minute and then added an insurance goal at the 73:51 mark. Adriana Borjon (Sr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) played well in goal, limiting the home squad to its two goals, while stopping seven other attempts on goal.

“I am really quite pleased with how competitive we were today,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “We tried to play with them as opposed to sitting back and only defending. We showed some good things at times and when our movement is good we can play some good soccer.”

“We did not defend well in transition, though, and did not have adequate cover and support behind our attacks,” McGowan added. “We also failed to keep possession with misplaced passes so we have a bit to work on before Graceland. I am hopeful we can take a number of positives from this game and keep moving forward as a group.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Lamoni Tuesday to face Graceland in Heart action at 5 p.m.
