(DES MOINES) – Rep. Guy Vander Linden (R-Oskaloosa) today released information on the Iowa Legislative Page program. Each year the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa Senate employ Iowa high school juniors and seniors to serve as Pages for the legislative session which begins in Monday, January 9, 2017.

Duties of the House and Senate Pages vary slightly, but they generally provide valuable assistance to Representatives or Senators and staff. Tasks include running the chamber switchboard, delivering messages, distributing legislation, assisting committee chairpersons and sorting amendments. Pages are paid and many schools offer class credit for a student’s work in the Legislature.

Rep. Vander Linden is encouraging local students to apply for the 2017 Page program.

“The legislative page program is a great way for high school students to see their state government in action. I hope area students will apply to serve as Legislative Pages next session,” said Rep. Vander Linden.

The application for the 2017 Legislative Page Program is due no later than Friday, October 7, 2016. To see more information or fill out an application, visit: https://www.legis.iowa.gov/agencies/careers/page.
