Betty Van Dee, 80 of Deep River, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 17, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Betty Louise (Snook) Van Dee was born to Lester and Eva (Tish) Snook on November 6, 1935, in rural Montezuma, IA.
Betty attended school in Montezuma, graduating in 1953.
Betty worked in the family restaurant, The Lunchroom, in Montezuma. She married Marion Van Dee on April 7, 1956. Seven children were born to this union. While being a mom, Betty also worked various jobs. Betty and Marion owned and operated the Chuckwagon in Deep River for many years. Many people enjoyed her cooking and visiting with her.
Betty enjoyed BINGO, playing cards, putting puzzles together, and doing word searches. Betty collected dolls and lovingly gifted one to each granddaughter on her 18th birthday.
Betty is survived by her children: Liz (& Mike) Roberts, John (& Brenda) Van Dee, Rosemary (& Ray) Cooper, J.D. (& Gwen) Van Dee, Angie (& David) Armstrong, and Justin (& Rebecca) Van Dee, all of Deep River. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren Selina (& Chris) McKinney, Charlie (& Kristie) Roberts, Trace (& Cassie) Roberts, Lindsey (& Joe) Wyckoff, Shane (& Brandy) Van Dee, Sid (& Abby) Van Dee, Stacey (& Benn) Coover, Leslie (& Mark) Miller, Maria Van Dee, Easton Van Dee, Jenn (& Josh) Williams, Sam Armstrong, Ted Armstrong, and Matt Armstrong. Betty loved her great grandchildren: Will, Gabe, Jadelyn, Desirae, Tillie, Thatcher, Payton, Hunter, Lillie, MaKinley, Mason, Kahler, Keyan, Becca, Marian, Landon, Jaci, Johnny, Madalyne, Camryn, and Braxtyn. Betty’s siblings: Francis Schillenger, Gladys Arthur, Eldon (& Reca) Snook, Keith (& Pat) Snook, Roy (& Kathy) Snook; sisters-in-laws, Betty Snook and Joan Snook; Marion’s siblings and their spouses; and numerous relatives and friends will cherish memories of Betty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; her daughter, Regina; four brothers: Willis, Floyd, Edward, and Donald Snook; and sister Lucille Tish.
Mass of a Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor.
Burial will be held in Armah Cemetery near Millersburg.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 296 Building Fund, Deep River, IA.
