Hannibal, Mo.–With some key players out due to injury, the William Penn women’s soccer team came up short in a 1-0 non-conference loss to Hannibal-LaGrange Saturday.

Not willing to worsen the health of their already beat-up squad, the Statesmen (2-3) rested several individuals in preparation for the start of league play next week. Unfortunately, those missing athletes may have given the visitors the extra boost needed to get past the Trojans (2-3).

The home team tallied the lone goal in the 23rd minute and the navy and gold were never able to tally the equalizer in their non-conference finale. Alyce Correia (Sr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education) and AnnaMarie Urps (So., Wilton, Calif., Physical Education) each recorded five shots as William Penn owned a 17-7 advantage in shots, including 11 in the second half.

Adriana Borjon (Sr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) stopped five shots in the loss.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Olathe, Kan. next Saturday to face MidAmerica Nazarene at 1 p.m. in its Heart of America Athletic Conference opener.
