Wanda Moothart, 92 of Grinnell passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2016 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Wanda Mae Moothart, the daughter of Virgil and Anna (Allerdice) Maxwell, was born on November 30, 1923 in Lockridge, Iowa.

Wanda graduated from Fairfield High School then received her teaching certificate from Parsons College in Fairfield.

On August 20, 1949, Wanda was united in marriage to Red Moothart at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union three children were born: Cynthia, Mike and Steve.

Wanda taught nine years at Wellman High School before having children and starting a family. She was then a housewife and a typical farmer’s wife, where she raised the sheep and chickens.

Wanda enjoyed gardening, bowling, camping, fishing and playing cards. She was a member of several neighborhood clubs. Wanda was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and truly loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two sons: Mike (& Diane) Moothart of New Sharon and Steve (& Penny) Moothart of New Sharon; five grandchildren: Chris Moothart, Tammy (& Kristofer) Sauer, Craig (& Sarah) Moothart, Gene (& Jaime) Moothart, Michelle (& Will) Playle, B.J. Smith, and Blayne (& Casey) Kool; and eight great grandchildren: Shyanne, Destiny, Aidan, Riley, Kirk, Hunter, Summer Jo and Clayton.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Red on May 10, 2015; her infant daughter, Cynthia; and her brother, Kenneth Maxwell.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Wellman Cemetery in Wellman, Iowa.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
