Michael Lee Hildenbrand, Sr., 65, of Keomah Village, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, at his home. He was born May 15, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Darlene Hildenbrand.

Mike graduated from East High School with the class of 1969. On March 3, 1971, he was united in marriage to Dixie Brown at his father’s home in Ohio.

Early on, Mike worked at Western Electric, which later became Northwestern Bell, in Des Moines for 10 years. He worked for a year at Vermeer in Pella. Last he worked at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa in the Machine Shop. He retired from his position as Maintenance Engineer in May of 2016. He was also the unofficial mechanic for his family.

Mike was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed camping and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Mike delighted in spending time with his family, he enjoyed attending their events.

His family includes his wife of over 45 years, Dixie Hildenbrand of Keomah Village; four children: Tanya Hildenbrand of St. Louis, Missouri, Nicole (& Seth) Hildenbrand-Elgin of Ankeny, Angela (& Duane) Groet of Indianapolis, and Michael (& Jessica Daniel) Hildenbrand, Jr. of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Ashton, Kierston, Sophia, Aiden, Loren, Joston, and Jade; three sisters: Kay (& Doug) Darby of Tennessee, Julie Hetrick of Oskaloosa, and Penny (& Kenneth) Olson-Linville of Oskaloosa; two brothers: Leonard Williams of Des Moines and Rick (& Denise) Vande Stroet of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Faye Hildenbrand; and his step father, Al Moilanen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
As was Mike’s wish, his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa American Legion or Stephen’s Memorial Animal Shelter.
