Shirley Dudley, 66, of Pleasant Hill, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. She was born July 25, 1950, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Raymond L. and Wilma Rowland Hite.

Shirley graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1968. She went on to graduate from the Ottumwa School of Cosmetology in 1970.

Shirley worked as a beautician in several salons for over 20 years. She left the beauty shops and went to work at Pella Corporation and later Vermeer. In 2003, she moved to Des Moines and she worked at a daycare in Pleasant Hill. For the past 10 years she has worked in the daycare at Casey’s General Store Corporate Campus in Ankeny.

On May 26, 2005, she was united in marriage to Michael Dudley in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Shirley enjoyed her flower gardens, watching NASCAR, and craft shows. She looked forward to attending several days of the Iowa State Fair each year. She delighted in her children, grandchildren and her daycare children.

Her family includes her husband, Mike Dudley of Pleasant Hill; a son and his wife, Brad (& Stephanie) Van Mersbergen of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren, Wade Votroubek and Dane Van Mersbergen; her brother and his wife, Howard (& Betty) Hite of Rose Hill; a nephew, Shayne Hite; and a niece, Sarah Hite.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Joshua VerSteegh.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Rodney DeRonde officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. and continue until service time at 10:30 Saturday.
Memorials may be made to Casey’s Corporate Daycare or Taylor House Hospice.
