Mahaska Health Partnership Surgical Services recently received an “Excellence in Patient Care” Award by Studer Group, a Huron Healthcare solution.

MHP received the award at the organization’s 14th annual “What’s Right in Healthcare” conference in Chicago for demonstrating outstanding performance in patient care in ambulatory surgery in 2015. To be considered for an award in this category, an organization must rank in the 90th percentile or higher for overall ambulatory surgery satisfaction as measured by patient satisfaction surveys.

The Excellence in Patient Care awards are given to select organizations that are coached by the outcomes-based organization, determined by various categories. MHP’s leadership team embraced the evidence-based tools coached by Studer, including post visit calls and patient focused discharge instructions with results that are impressive.

“Recipients were nominated based on performance in key metrics and winners were selected based on achievement, improvement and overall outstanding performance,” said MHP Chief Nursing Officer Darlene Keuning, RN, BSN, MS. “It is a team effort to make the types of changes that result in the outcomes that are recognized by this award.

“We have an outstanding team of nurses, physicians and employees in vital support roles who deliver excellent patient care. Our patients are the real winners in this process.”

According to Surgical Services Director Michele Manternach, RN, “This award recognizes what we have known for a long time, our staff is simply amazing. We are passionate about what we do and we go the extra mile to provide personalized healthcare to our family, friends and community.

“MHP employees are what make us special. We do everything we can to make surgery as pleasant of an experience as possible for every patient, every time.”

Keuning stressed that receiving this award verifies MHP’s dedication to quality patient care. “MHP works diligently to make the hospital a better place for patients to receive care, employees to work and physicians to practice medicine.”
