Grinnell’s Joshua Tibatemwa competes in Olympic Games
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Grinnell College’s Joshua Tibatemwa ’19 had the experience only most can dream about Thursday morning when he competed in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Tibatemwa swam in the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries, posting a time of 25.98 to take sixth in the fourth heat. The heat winner was Hilal Hemed Hilil of Tanzania.
Tibatemwa is the first Pioneer in modern history to compete in the Olympics while still a student at Grinnell.
