Seddon, Coertze Named Booster Club Players of the Year

Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the fourth annual John Eberline Player of the Year Awards.

Junior track and field athlete Derek Seddon (Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) won the Male award, while senior women’s golfer Demi Coertze (Johannesburg, South Africa, Digital Communication) collected the Female honor.

Seddon, a four-time Booster Club Player of the Month winner in 2015-2016, was a two-time NAIA All-American as he placed second in the outdoor discus and seventh in the indoor shot put. The junior broke four school records and qualified for nationals in five different events. He won one Heart of America Athletic Conference title and was a four-time Heart Field Athlete of the Week.

Coertze, also a four-time POM, was named a Second-Team NAIA All-American. The senior owned a 78.5 stroke average over 26 rounds, including posting 16 rounds in the 70s (low of 72). She claimed five tournament victories and managed seven other top-10 efforts. The Heart Conference Player of the Year, Coertze won three Heart Player of the Week laurels.
