Oskaloosa–Mason Rohr (Jr., Nixa, Mo., Biology) has cleared one hurdle and will now be put against the NAIA’s best after receiving the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s A.O. Duer Award nomination.

Rohr, a junior linebacker for the Statesmen football team, became the first student-athlete at WPU to receive the league honor. The awards are part of the NAIA’s yearly recognition; the national winners will be announced in September.

Rohr was fifth for the navy and gold in 2015 with 48 tackles (18 solos, 30 assists, 2.5 for loss). The two-time letterwinner also tallied one sack and one interception. His top effort came against Avila when he managed nine tackles and an interception.

Off the gridiron, Rohr is an exceptional student with a 4.0 Grade Point Average. A member of the Dean’s and President Lists, he has volunteered at Oskaloosa Elementary School for their Math and Reading Days and also worked at the United Way Kids Day.

The Duer Award is named in honor of the former NAIA executive secretary. It is presented annually to one junior student-athlete of each gender based on their scholarship, character, and citizenship.
