Lauralee Staley, 91, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Lauralee Ruth Staley, daughter of Lloyd and Gladys (Warrick) Williams, was born, April 11, 1925, in Delta, Iowa.

Lauralee attended country school and was a 1943 graduate of Delta High School. She then went on to graduate from William Penn College earning her Teacher’s Certificate.

Lauralee taught at several country schools early in her career, including the Prine Country School and then Franklin Elementary in Ottumwa. The majority of her teaching career was spent at Webster School in Oskaloosa where she taught the 4th grade.

On July 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Floyd Staley.

In 1976, Lauralee and Floyd became co-owners of the Canteen Lunch in Ottumwa, with her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Earnest McBeth. They operated the restaurant until 2015 when they sold their business.

Lauralee was a member of the Central United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also an avid collector of antiques, particularly from the Victorian Era. She very much enjoyed her time at the Canteen and spending it with the “Canteen Cupcakes”. Lauralee loved to be around family and friends.

Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Donna (& Larry) Logan of Ottumwa, Iowa; granddaughters, Kaila and McKenzie Wheeldon of University Park, Iowa; a sister, Shirley (& Earnest) McBeth of Ottumwa, Iowa; two nephews: Mark (& Kathe) McBeth of Charlotte, NC and Chris (& Jennifer) McBeth of Laural, MD.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Floyd Staley, Lauralee was preceded in death by a daughter, Bette Wheeldon.

Funeral services will be Monday July 25, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be on Monday July 25, 2016, 11:30 at Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 23, 2016, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorial donations can be made to Central United Methodist Church.
