Rose Wagoner
November 16, 1929 – July 23, 2016
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 86

Rosina (Rose) Wagoner, 86, of Oskaloosa, IA died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, IA. Rose was born November 16, 1929 in Altötting, Germany (Bavaria) to Franz and Anna Müeller.

Rose met and married her late husband, John D. Wagoner, while he was stationed at the Air Force base in Erding, Germany where she worked in the secretarial pool. Rose moved to America with John in 1952. Rose became a U.S. Citizen in 1958.

Rose faithfully followed her husband throughout his ministerial assignments by the Methodist Church while raising two sons, Steve and Jim, and a daughter, Cindy, in Burlington and Chillicothe, IA, under difficult conditions while still assimilating as a U.S. citizen. The family relocated to Oskaloosa in 1964 when John accepted a position at William Penn College. A fourth child, Chris, was born in 1965.

She frequently visited friends and acquaintances in nursing homes, singing hymns and praying with them until she was no longer able. One of the great joys in her life was participating in weekly bible studies and prayer with her friends. Rose enjoyed participating in “Sewing Seeds”, a group of women from Bethel Baptist Church who provided baby quilts to Alpha Center in Des Moines. She also participated in district meetings and women’s groups at church and vacation bible school.

Rose embraced her role as the wife of a college president by hosting visiting dignitaries and representing William Penn College with her husband on many travels abroad. She enjoyed connecting with women who had recently become U.S. citizens, sharing common experiences, traditions and inviting them to worship.

Rose is survived by her four children: Steve (& Mary) Wagoner of Young Harris, GA, Cindy (& Nick) Kool of Columbus, NE, Jim (& Linda) Wagoner of Orlando, FL, and Chris (& Mary) Wagoner of Sun Prairie, WI; her sister, Mary Tünk of Ingolstadt, Germany; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; and her husband of 49 years, John D. Wagoner.

We celebrate her old life with us and her new life to come. She will be greatly missed but always remembered with love.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Steve Cox officiating.
Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery at LeGrande, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
As was Rose’s wish, no visitation is planned.
