Oskaloosa (Iowa) youth athlete Vincent Ramirez won four first-place finishes out of seven events in the Teenage Boys 14 to 15 age group in the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games in Los Angeles, Calif., this past week. On Thursday, he was awarded with a first place medal and recognized as the fittest on earth.
The 15 year old made his second Games appearance after ranking first in the world during Open qualifying. The top 10 qualifiers in the world are invited to the Games.
“It was another yearly goal of mine. I knew I had a good chance of winning because I won the Open,” said Ramirez. “It went better than planned. I did much better in the workouts I thought I was weaker in.”
“Event 3 (the Berm Run) was the most challenging. It was four rounds of berm run (stair running) and 20 burpee box jumps. I finished 6th.”
“Now I feel great! My new goal is to qualify for the 16 to 17 age group in 2017. I’ll work on cardio the most in the next year.”
Ramirez trains at the OFC club in Oskaloosa, and the CrossFit Pella club in Pella. A welcoming party was held at the Oskaloosa Herald offices upon his return from the Games on Sunday, July 24, at approximately 1:30 pm.
