Martha Viola Willis Knox, 94, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Monday, May 29, 1922, in Newbern, Alabama, the daughter of Emmett H. and Ada Love Willis.

Martha graduated from the Greensboro High School in Greensboro, Alabama with the Class of 1940. She later attended Iowa State College in Ames and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1949.

Martha served in the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve during WWII for 18 months.

On January 17, 1945, Martha was united in marriage to Lee H. Knox in Sanford, Florida, Lee died April, 22, 1995.

Martha later worked as a secretary at South Central Mental Health Center for 25 years.

She enjoyed mushroom hunting, studying the Bible and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oskaloosa.

Martha is survived by her three sons: Larry (& Barbara) Knox, Glenn (& Susan) Knox and David (& Julie) Knox, all of Oskaloosa; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Albert (& Phyllis) Willis of Florence, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 18, 2016, at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Minister Danny Fryer officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Monday, July 18, 2016 from 12 noon until service time at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel during that time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses or to the Martha Knox Memorial Fund.
