The Oskaloosa City Band To Honor Those That Serve Us At Home

The Oskaloosa City Band 2015

The Oskaloosa City Band

The Oskaloosa City Band will perform on Oskaloosa’s historic bandstand on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. This week, the band will be under the direction of Gidget Utterback and Nathan Smith. Utterback teaches Music at Keota and Fremont, and plays alto saxophone in the city band. Smith teaches music at Twin Cedars and plays oboe in the city band.

Special guests at Thursday’s festivities will be our Emergency Services. To honor them, everyone is encouraged to wear Blue on Thursday to show their support. The street on the east side of the square will be filled with Oskaloosa Police, Mahaska County Sheriff, Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska Health Partnership ambulance and paramedics, and Mahaska County Emergency Management. It will be a great opportunity to shake hands and thank our community members who work tirelessly to protect and keep us safe. Bring your children to meet and talk with our local emergency service providers and tour their vehicles.

Yard games and food vendors will open at 5:30 and continue throughout the evening.

The concert list includes the following:

National Anthem
Pan American March
Tales of Sea and Sail
Abide With Me (dedicated to C.L. “Chuck” Barnhouse III)
Instant Concert
Curtain Call
Gently Flows the Amber Grain
The 3-Minute Nutcracker
