Mary Lucille Simmers, 95, of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away at 11:25 P.M., on July 10, 2016, at the Serenity House of Oskaloosa. Mary was born November 3, 1920 in Hiteman, Iowa. She was one of thirteen children born to James and Margaret (Jobusch) Bloodsworth. She grew up in Monroe County and moved to Eddyville in the 1930’s where she lived out her life.

Mary married John Robert “Dobs” Simmers in Queen City, Missouri on September 15, 1940 and he passed away in 1976. To this union was born three children: John Simmers, Pam Steel, and Loretta (& Glen) Knoot, whom passed away in 1989.

Mary’s favorite hobbies were spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to fish, arrowhead hunt, crochet and garden.

Mary is survived by her two children: John (Miona Morrell) Simmers of Eddyville and Pam Steel of Eddyville; six grandchildren, Jackie (& Mike) Minter of Missouri, Patti (& Todd) Heinle of Ohio, Lee Ann (& Dan) Dickey of Albia, Heather (& Tim) Elswick of Eddyville, Dee Ann (& Mike) Miller of Arkansas, and Bobbi Nichols of Arkansas; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; and one great great great-grandson. Mary is also survived by one brother, Russel Bloodsworth of Oskaloosa; and one sister, Jane Levy of California.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Bloodsworth; her husband, Dobs; her daughter, Loretta Knoot; and six brothers: James, Fred, Robert, Albert, Phillip, and Tom Bloodsworth; and four sisters: Mildred Wilson, Dorothy Belzer, Betty Seibert, and Alberta Applegate.

Mary’s wishes were to be cremated. The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting Mary’s family with services.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.
A memorial has been established to the family.
