Alexis “Alex” Leigh Christenson, 27, of Harper, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born March 13, 1989, in Oskaloosa the daughter of David and Leigh Gatton Christenson.

Alex graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2007. While in high school she was involved in softball, soccer and band.

Following high school, she worked at Casey’s in Oskaloosa, and was currently employed by the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in the Hedrick/Packwood area.

Alex enjoyed wine and canvas with her family and girlfriends, crafts with her kids, and looking for craft ideas on Pinterest. She also enjoyed baking, flowers, plants, animals, and shopping; going to the state fair and county fairs; Iowa Hawkeye football games; and the out of doors, hunting deer and pheasants. She maintained an active and positive life throughout her ten-month battle with cancer.

Her family includes her father, Dave (& Michelle) Christenson of Oskaloosa; her mother, Leigh (& Steve Weller) Christenson of Oskaloosa; her daughters: Laynie Christenson of Harper and Gentry Taghon of Harper; her son, Weston Taghon of Harper; her fiancé, Trevor Taghon of Harper; a sister, Amanda Christenson of Williamsburg; three step brothers: Tad Shannon, Logan (& Nicole) Shannon, and Conner (& Brittni) Shannon. Also surviving is her maternal grandmother, Jane Gatton of Oskaloosa; several aunts and uncles; and Trevor’s parents, Dan & Lori Taghon of Sigourney.

Alex was preceded in death her maternal grandfather, Gary Gatton; and her paternal grandparents, Fred & Helen Wells.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the St. James Episcopal Church, Oskaloosa, with Reverend Father Terry Kleven officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Friday after 12 noon, and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
A memorial fund has been established to the family for an educational fund for her children.
