Shirley Van Dalen, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born July 4, 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle Rae Rockwell.
On May 29, 1952, Shirley was united in marriage to Bob Van Dalen in Oskaloosa. Bob died June 25, 1999.
Early on Shirley worked at Oskaloosa Foods in Oskaloosa. Last she worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Oskaloosa, retiring from there in 2007.
Shirley enjoyed being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Her family includes her five children: Randy Van Dalen of Oskaloosa, Terry Van Dalen of Oskaloosa, Vicky (& Dean) Tomlin of Albia, Connie Van Dalen of Oskaloosa, and Bobby (& Lori) Van Dalen of Oskaloosa; thirteen grandchildren: Rick (& Steph) DeVore, Jen Tomlin, Isaac (& Laura) Tomlin, Lydia (& Tanner) Jontz, Ryan (& Gab) Van Dalen, Alyssa Van Dalen, Michael (& Diana) Ingham, Kyla Evans (& fiance Bruce Nord), Brandon (& Allyson) Van Dalen, Jesse Van Dalen, Channa (& Gary) Daniels, Shaddon Davis, Shandy (& KC) Crook; twenty two great grandchildren: Waiverly Daniels, Randy Daniels, Kaylee Daniels, Dalton Daniels, Serenity McDonald, Jayley Mathes, Draven Nord, Kaesen Nord, Hailey Ingham, Caiden Ingham, Carson Van Dalen, Drayton Van Dalen, Easton Van Dalen, Ashlee DeVore, Katelynn Tracey, Tanner DeVore, Kohl Tomlin, Samantha Aalbers, William Aalbers, Callan Tomlin, Kelsie Tomlin, Kelsey Aalbers; a brother, Ricky Rae; and a sister in law, Dorothy Rockwell.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Olivia Van Dalen; and three brothers: Sam, Jack, and Bill Rockwell.
A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, July 8, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Shirley’s wish, her body has been cremated and no visitation is planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
