Matthew Allen Rea, 81, of Longview TX, left this world to meet his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Longview Regional Hospital in the presence of his Wife, Millie Rea and sons Michael and Montgomery Rea.
Matthew graduated from What Cheer High School in What Cheer, IA in 1954. He joined the U.S. Army in Oct, 1956 and served two years. He served in the 2nd, 4th, and 9th Infantry Div. Matthew then attended Tennessee Temple Bible College in Chattanooga, TN.
Matthew worked for the Polk County Sheriff in Des Moines, IA from 1971 to 1974, winning the Award of Merit for Outstanding Service in the Line of Duty. He also worked for Massey-Ferguson for almost 10 years.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 59 years, Millie Rea; three sons: Michael area, Marvin (& Tammy) Rea, and Montgomery Rea; 9 grandchildren: Paul (& Rochelle) Rea, Candice (& Chris) Wood, Jacob (& Anna) Rea, Zachariah (& Nicole) Rea, Sarah (& Casey) Odell, Shanna (& Brett) Leuer, Adam (& Nohemi) Rea, Amandalyn (& Wilfred) Van Note III, and James Matthew Rea; and 28 great grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Weldon Cemetery. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held in Longview, TX.
