Elizabeth “Betty” Adreon, 89, of Eddyville, IA passed away July 1, 2016, at the Taylor Hospice House of Des Moines. Betty was born on October 1, 1926, to John and Callie Josephine (Holden) Shaw in Boone, Iowa.
Betty was raised in Boone and graduated from the Sacred Heart Catholic School, Class of 1944.
On November 30, 1944, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, Iowa, Betty and Robert Elwood Adreon were united in marriage. Betty and Bob were blessed with nine children: Thomas, Janet, Barbara, Gary, Teresa, Daniel, Ronald, Alan (deceased), and Rich. Betty and Bob shared 45 years of marriage together, until Bob’s passing on August 2, 1990.
Betty and Bob started their family in Boone, Iowa and soon moved to Creston, later Shannon City, then Greenfield, Clarinda, and Oskaloosa. In 1959 they moved to Eddyville were Betty and Bob raised their family. Betty lived in Eddyville until 2012 before moving to Pleasantville to be closer to family in 2012.
Betty worked for 20 years as a bus driver for the Eddyville Community School, retiring in 1993. Prior to bus driving her and Bob owned and operated Roto-Rooter of Eddyville from 1965 to 1993.
Betty was a dedicated sports fan. For many decades she attended all local athletic sports and she was a loyal Hawkeye and Cubs fan. After Bob’s passing Betty enjoyed bowling and for 20 years was a member of the U.S.B.C. She retired from bowling in June of 2015. She enjoyed fishing, she was a former little league coach, and an Eddyville sports booster supporter. Betty was devoted to her family and loved them all. She attended and enjoyed their school and social events and was proud of being involved in their lives.
Betty is survived by her children: Thomas (& Marilyn) Adreon of Pleasantville, Janet Fontana of Fairfield, Barbara (& Ron) Avery of Ankeny, Gary (& Tammie) Adreon of Pleasantville, Teresa (& Kevin) Bauer of Centerville, Daniel Adreon (& Stacey Mathias) of Eddyville, Ronald (& Tracy) Adreon of Pleasantville, and Rich (& Dana) Thomas of Pleasantville; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Callie Shaw; her husband, Robert “Bob” Adreon; one son, Alan Dean Adreon; a son-in-law, Tom Fontana; two grandchildren, Cassidy Adreon and Brent Adreon; three sisters: Agnes Shaw, Jeanette Wilson, and Bernadine “Bunny” Collins; and three brothers: Thomas, John, and Laverne Shaw.
Visitation for Betty will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Betty’s family will be greeting friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.
Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery of Eddyville.
