Luella Jean Stater, 86, of Ottumwa, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born Monday, November 4, 1929, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Virgil and Grace Scarborough Roquet.

Luella graduated from the Fremont High School. Following graduation, Luella worked on the family farm for several years. She later worked at the Lowenburg Bakery in Ottumwa until her retirement. In retirement, Luella worked at the Cherry Motel and the Albia Road Motel in Ottumwa.

Luella was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa and Dudes ‘N Dolls and ‘B’ Squares square dancing clubs. She enjoyed traveling, attending country music shows, playing cards, especially pitch and various other games, and working outside.

She is survived by her step daughter, Cheryle (& Lance) Frye of Davenport; two step sons: Jeff (& Mary) Stater of Ottumwa and Todd Stater of Schleswig, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two cousins: Gerald (& Joanne) Roquet of Hedrick and Eugene (& Mary) Meier of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Stater; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Jim Wakelin officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery south of Fremont.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1 P.M. until service time at 2 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont and the family will be present during that time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa or to the American Heart Association.
