PELLA — Central College has named Zach Deutscher as an assistant baseball coach.

A 2011 graduate of North Park University (Ill.), Deutscher spent the previous three seasons at North Central College (Ill.) as an assistant and graduate assistant coach. He has also been a hitting and catching instructor at The Edge in Plainfield, Illinois since 2011.

“The most important thing is that he’s going to be a high energy, positive influence in the dugout,” coach Matt Schirm said. “That was a priority for me when looking at this position. He also has been part of very successful programs as a player and as a coach.”

As a player at North Park, he hit 26 home runs, the sixth most in school history. He was named to the all-region second team in 2011 and was a three-time all-conference selection in the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. He signed a contract with the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League in May of 2012.

Deutscher graduated from North Park with a bachelor’s degree in business & economics and received his master’s degree in business administration from North Central in June 2016.

The Dutch finished the regular season at 10-30 (7-21 IIAC), finishing seventh in the Iowa Conference.
