The Oskaloosa City Band performs each Thursday at 8pm in the evening during summer.

The Oskaloosa City Band will perform their weekly concert on Thursday, June 23 at 8 p.m. Concert goers are encouraged to enjoy Supper in the Shade and play yard games, beginning at 5:30, and continuing throughout the evening.

This week’s musical selections include some hits from the 70’s and 80’s: Low Rider (recorded by War), Africa (recorded by Toto), and Sing A Song (recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire). There will also be tunes from Broadway and motion pictures: Highlights from Les Miserables and Be Our Guest (from Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast). The concert will be rounded out with marches and overtures, including the traditional “fiery overture based on a western theme”.

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a bottle of bubbles and spend a relaxing evening in the city square park.

The City band will be holding their 4th of July concert on Thursday, June 30th. They will be honoring all veterans in Mahaska county or any veteran that is in attendance. The Honor Guard will be raising the colors at the court house and then will honor each branch of service. The Honor Guard will then carry each branch of services colors to the center of the square.

The Honor Guard will be handing out small flags to the children and accepting donations for the Memorial Day committee to help cover the cost of replacing the worn flags. If you would like to be a part of this please let the American Legion know as they will need help taking donations and handing out flags to the children. All veterans are encouraged to attend!
