At 02:38 A.M. Oskaloosa Fire was dispatched to a working structure fire at 313 North A. Units arrived to moderate smoke and flames from the second floor of the house. The house was confirmed unoccupied. Due to fast response time by the Fire Department, as well as support from Oskaloosa Police, Mahaska County Sherriff’s Department, and Mahaska Ambulance the fire was contained to the room of origin and extinguished. The cause was determined to be an improperly loaded electrical cord running a window air conditioner. Captain Daniel Hoy would like to recognize the paid on call firefighters who responded this morning. “These firefighters fought a house fire for most of the morning and still go to their regular jobs during the day. That’s a tremendous service to give to your community.” There were no injuries incurred during this incident.
