Rita Giese, 60, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Rita Faye Giese was born November 4, 1955 in Tiptonville, Tennessee the daughter of Robert and Dell Harp Matheny.
Rita attended United Township High School in East Moline and later received her degree in early childhood education from Indian Hills Community College.
Rita was united in marriage to Tony Lee Giese on April 21, 1973 at the Baptist Church in Green Rock, IL. To this union came three daughters and a son.
Over the years Rita worked as a waitress, owned and operated a pet grooming service and, for a short time, she worked at Excel in Ottumwa. For the last twenty one years, she has been a Head Start teacher for Sieda in Oskaloosa.
Rita enjoyed going to the movies with her children and grandchildren, playing the slots at the casino and cookouts with her family. It really didn’t matter what or where she was at, as long as she was with her family, she was happy. Rita’s entire world revolved around her family. She enjoyed the social network and was a special and loyal wife for forty three years.
Rita is survived by her husband Tony Giese of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Jennifer (& Danny) Carriker of Delta, Amy (& Brian) Horn of Oskaloosa, Toni (& Ronnie) Pearson of Delta; a son, Robert (& Rebecca) Giese of Oskaloosa; a brother, Richard (& Sandra) Matheny of Altoona; and her nine grandchildren: Daniel and Janiel Carriker, Alisha, Mikayla, Emily and Candice Horn, Logan and Kolton Pearson, and Kailee Haring.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a sister-in-law, Freda Smith.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery near Delta.
Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
