Letter To The Editor: Mahaska County Voters Will Go To The Polls On June 7 To Nominate

Mahaska County voters will go to the polls on June 7 to nominate a Republican candidate for Mahaska County Supervisor. I am urging Mahaska County voters to cast their ballot for supervisor for Valinn McReynolds.

Valinn is a proven leader who will serve Mahaska County well. She is currently the Executive Director of the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce and previously was the Executive Director of Oskaloosa Habitat for Humanity. Her role in these positions has helped her to build up important relationships in Mahaska County and know what the issues are that affect Mahaska County residents.

I believe that Valinn’s story of how she came to Mahaska County and chose to make it her home is exactly why we need her on the Supervisors. We need leaders who understand how important it is to attract younger people to the area in order to continue to help the Mahaska Community grow and be a viable alternative to urban areas such as Des Moines, Waterloo-Cedar Falls, and Cedar Rapids. Valinn knows from her personal experience what the Mahaska Community can do to continue to be progressive. She will always put Mahaska County, not herself, first when making important decisions.

Unfortunately, I can not vote in Tuesday’s election, as I now live in Waterloo. However, as a native of Oskaloosa having lived the first 22 years of my life in Mahaska County, I am passionate about who is leading the County, and whether those leaders are taking the County forward, or backward. By electing Valinn, we can add another leader to the Supervisors who wants to help build an area where young people, like myself, can move to the area and flourish. I ask everyone to get out and vote on Tuesday. The stakes are simply too high to stay home.
