GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Matt Godinsky ’16 was a first-team selection and Graham Fisher ’16 earned a spot on the second unit of the 2016 D3baseball.com All-Central Region squad.

Godinsky, a 6-0 right-hander from Sycamore, Ill. (Sycamore), was named as a relief pitcher and Fisher, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher and designated hitter from Palo Alto, Calif. (Gunn), made the squad at a utility spot.

Both players helped the Pioneers to the best season in program history which ended with 30 victories and a national ranking. The Pioneers also won the Midwest Conference South Division for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Godinsky sat opposing batters down in stunning fashion, compiling a measly 0.68 ERA and striking out 15 batters in 13-1/3 innings. He set school records with eight saves, which ranks second all-time in the MWC, and games finished with 15.

Also an outfielder, Godinsky showed his prowess at the plate and field. He hit .310 and ranked fifth in the MWC with seven homers. He also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 64 chances.

Fisher was recently named the MWC South Division Pitcher of the Year and was a three-time All-MWC choice in his career. On the mound, he led the league in ERA (1.47), was second in wins (seven), fourth in opposing batting average (.223) and sixth in strikeouts (59).

Offensively, Fisher led the league in home runs (10), was second in slugging percentage (.787), third in RBIs (41) and total bases (96) and fourth in batting average (.426) and on-base percentage (.510).

Top region honors went to Buena Vista’s Neil Marshall (Player of the Year), Washington University’s Brad Margolin (Pitcher of the Year), Kevin DeLaney of Coe (Rookie of the Year) and Ed Mathey of North Central (Coach of the Year).
