USSSA Baseball – Oskaloosa Lightning

Oskaloosa USSSA volunteers Doug Yates and Doug Dekock teamed up to host the “7th Annual Lacey Longball Classic,” a two-day baseball tournament, at the Lacey Recreation Complex over the weekend. Thirty baseball teams, U8 through U14, participated, including the Oskaloosa Fire, Oskaloosa Lightning, Oskaloosa Avalanche, and Oskaloosa Storm, as well as teams from Ankeny, Burlington, Carlisle, Cedar Rapids Clarinda, Fairfield, Grinnell, Indianola, Johnston, Knoxville, Mt. Pleasant, Ottumwa, Pella, Prairie City – Monroe, and Waukee. “Great tournament, great complex! We love coming here,” said one mom from Indianola, “We brought the whole family, including grandparents with us!” Yates stated that the net proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Oskaloosa High School baseball program. Nearly 400 players competed in front of 1,000 spectators each day. “A tournament of this magnitude takes great volunteer support from the coaches, parents and players associated with the high school program – a huge THANKS to all that helped,” commented Yates. Division champions were 8U – Knoxville Panthers, 9U – Ottumwa Flying Squirrels, 10U Silver – Ottumwa Alpha Dogs, 10U Gold – Ankeny Dragons, and our very own Oskaloosa Storm captured the 14U crown.
