Bonnie Weiland, 81, of Fremont, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at her home in Fremont. She was born Monday, February 18, 1935, near Britt, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Greta Goodnow Ostercamp.

Bonnie graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1952. She later attended Hamilton School of Business in Mason City. She received her Associates Degree in Business at Indian Hills Community College later in life.

On November 27, 1954, Bonnie was united in marriage to Robert R. Weiland in Britt, Iowa. Robert died March 23, 2002.

Together, Bonnie and Robert farmed near Britt for several years until moving to Fremont in 1968. Bonnie worked at Manor House in Sigourney and Walker Motors in Oskaloosa. Bonnie also worked at the Clerk of Courts Office in Mahaska County for nearly 15 years until her retirement in 2005. In retirement, Bonnie worked part time in the office at Fremont Funeral Chapel from 2012 to 2015.

Bonnie was very active in the Fremont United Methodist Church and was involved in the praise band and mission work. She was a past board member of Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity and served on the advisory board for Fremont Community Schools.

She enjoyed quilting, reading and fishing. Bonnie was always willing to help wherever she was needed. She loved her family dearly and delighted in their company.

Her family includes her two daughters and their husbands: Sue (& Neal) Brown of Fremont and Kathy (& Gary) Friedman of Colleyville, Texas; two sons and their wives: Paul (& Tena) (Essary) Weiland of Fremont and Duane (& DeeAnna) (Humes) Weiland of Fremont; ten grandchildren: Wes Brown, Tara (Brown) Surprenant, Ryan Friedman, Paige (Friedman) Hopkins, Kyle Friedman, Alicia (Elder) Harland, Victor Weiland, Amy (VanSteenwyk) West, Aaron VanSteenwyk, and Michael VanSteenwyk; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands: Marie (& Dean) Hiscocks of Dexter, Minnesota and Joyce (& Jack) Heen of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister in law, Carolyn Ostercamp (Herman’s widow); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, George and Herman Ostercamp; and two sisters, Ila Nielson and one in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. in the Fremont United Methodist Church with Reverend Bob Voels officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery south of Fremont.
Visitation will begin Friday, May 20, 2016, after 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the ALS Association in honor of her late husband Robert or the Fremont United Methodist Church.
