GRINNELL, Iowa – A year after being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Great Lakes All-Region second team, Grinnell College’s Kayla Morrissey ’18 has moved up to the elite unit in 2016.

The third baseman from Burr Ridge, Ill., (Lyons Township North) helped the Pioneers to 16 victories overall and eight in the Midwest Conference, both the best win totals for the program since the 2006 season. Morrissey was among the tops in the Midwest Conference in several categories en route to being named a first-team all-league selection.

She was first in triples with four, ranked second in RBIs with 29 and was third in batting average at .414, on-base percentage with a .465 percentage and third in hits with 48. Morrissey was fourth in the league in assists with 86 and seventh in total bases with 63. Morrissey is the only Pioneer in recent history to earn all-region honors.
